Glamorous Warriors

When I first walked into the Royal Parlour at the Fairmont Vancouver Hotel, I saw small groups of young women, some who seemed fragile and shy, others were verbose, comedic and full of confidence.  They were all there for a glamorous evening.  An evening of laughter, sharing stories and perhaps a few tears but mostly to be pampered and to forget for a brief moment how serious life can be.

These young gals in their teens and early twenties, all have something in common.  They are all “Warriors” fighting for the next day, the next year and a full life.

I always believed that if someone was in “the” health battle, that you could read their illness in their eyes, or their body stance or confidence level.  This is often not the case.  Some of the women seemed untouched, unphased as if they had a protective veil covering the hell their systems are going through.

The women I met that evening could teach most people about grace, power and appreciation.  Grace as they go through their day, power to keep fighting the battle and appreciation for the good days.

It is not easy talking about Cancer, especially when someone you love is living it

These glamorous warriors are the reason we have to actively keep talking about and continue to fight this terrible disease.

I was grateful to be part of this wonderful evening and get to meet such amazing young women.  There are so many folks that gave their energy and talent to make the evening a success, from stylists and make-up artists to folks making sure that everyone was partaking and enjoying themselves.  Thank you Claus Brunner and Miel Bernstein for having me on-board and a special thank you to my friend and photographer Braden Haggerty for bringing her talents to the table.

I tip my hat to all off you.

Remember the truth is, when you have your health you do have everything.  Be grateful. If you know someone is experiencing this terrible disease, in your heart wish them health, they deserve it.
